The Endoscopy Center
at Boice-Willis Clinic opened in 2006 and is accredited by the Accreditation
Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. The center is equipped
with state-of-the-art equipment and provides a comfortable, relaxed
environment for patients who are undergoing diagnostic endoscopic
procedures. Our experienced physicians are highly skilled and well
respected in the region.
The Place:
The Boice-Willis
Endoscopy Center is located at 901 N Winstead Ave, Rocky Mount, on
the 3rd floor of the Rocky Mount Medical Park.
Our hours of
operation are 7:00-3:30 Monday- Thursday and 7:00-12:30 on Fridays.
We are closed on weekends and holidays. All procedures are scheduled
through the BWC Gastroenterology Department. For questions or more
information, please call 937-0231.
The Process:
Once a patient is referred to us, we begin a screening
process. You will receive a phone call requesting more health
information. Following that screening call, your insurance will be
verified and then you will receive another call to schedule the
appointment. After the appointment is made, you will receive
detailed instructions in the mail regarding preparation for your
procedure. If you have not
received instructions within 5 days of your scheduled appointment,
please call 937-0231.
The Procedure Day:
Unless your
physician has given you permission to do otherwise,
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE.
If you are a diabetic,
please check your blood sugar prior to coming to the center.
BRING ALL
MEDICATIONS WITH YOU.
In order to take the best care of you, we will record a current and
accurate medication list.
YOU MUST BRING A
DRIVER WITH YOU.
After receiving sedation, you will not be allowed to drive the
remainder of the day. You should
plan to bring an escort
that will stay with you on
site until you are ready to go home. You may not go home alone
in a taxi, van or shuttle bus as that driver cannot be responsible
for you.
The admission process may take 20-30 minutes. During this
time, we will ask you questions aimed at providing you safe and
appropriate care. You will be asked to sign sedation and procedure
consents. At this time we will begin an intravenous (IV) infusion.
Prior to receiving sedation, you will talk to the physician in
the procedure room. You will be positioned on your left side. The
nurse will give you sedation through the intravenous line. You will
be carefully monitored during the entire procedure. If the physician
sees a polyp, he will remove it. If he sees anything unusual, he
will biopsy it. The removed tissue will be sent to a lab to be
tested.
The actual procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. Because
we seek to provide safe and thorough care for each of our patients,
some cases may take longer. As a result, occasionally cases go
longer than planned therefore delaying procedure times.
Please plan to be here up to
3 hours.
After the procedure, you will be recovered for approximately
30 minutes. Your escort will be allowed to come and sit with you at
this time. During this recovery time, we will continue to monitor
your vital signs and provide you with some nourishment. The
physician will talk with you, and with your permission, your escort,
in the recovery area. We will provide you with written detailed
discharge instructions and phone numbers to call for any questions
or complications.
Our commitment is to
treat everyone with respect and dignity, providing the highest
quality of care.
