Dr. Jere went into the medical field because of a childhood experience. He was in pain, and a dentist was able to relieve it. He wanted to do that for others.
He completed his premedical education at St. Andrews University, Scotland, and started his clinical studies at St. Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College in London and finished at the University of Malawi College of Medicine. He joined UNC research studies and worked in Malawi and UNC Chapel Hill, NC.
He completed his residency and internships at the University of Connecticut, and fellowship at Drexel University in Philadelphia. His practice includes any complications of the kidneys including acute or chronic kidney failure, electrolyte abnormalities, kidney stones, and hypertension.
“Rural medicine has its challenges because often there are social and economic issues in addition to medical. It’s important to see patients early in the process so we can help them prevent diseases from progressing.”
