A native of Wilmington, NC, Charnette H. Shade, MD, has been with Boice-Willis Clinic for more than two decades.
After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she pursued her Master of Life Sciences with a concentration in microbiology and genetics from North Carolina State University. She returned to UNC for medical school, followed by her internship and residency at the University of Texas — Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She practiced for four years in Maryland and Washington, DC, before returning to her home state to be closer to family.
Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Shade was motivated to become a doctor at the age of seven when her five-year-old little brother died of congenital heart disease. Knowing the grief her family endured, she wanted to go into medicine to help others.
Within pediatrics, Dr. Shade enjoys working with all ages, from newborns to adolescents, and helping to educate new moms. She also has a special interest in working with patients who have chronic illnesses.
In addition to her busy practice at Boice-Willis Clinic, Dr. Shade serves as an adjunct professor in area medical schools, including UNC, Campbell, and ECU.
She enjoys traveling with her family, being active, and is a self-described sports junkie.
“I chose to specialize in pediatrics because I loved all of it. I didn’t mind getting up in the middle of the night, and it brought me the most joy. I love working with children and families and to help them implant healthy lifestyle choices.”
