As the child of a diplomat from India, Dr. Saxena grew up in a dozen different countries and has lived in the United States the longest.

Following medical school in India, Dr. Saxena completed his residency, internships and fellowships at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

He was drawn to work at Boice-Willis because he wanted to be part of a clinic that has been serving a region for more than 110 years where people desperately need access to medical care.

He also chose Boice-Willis because of the freedom and flexibility in patient care inherent in a physician-owned practice. He chose nephrology because it is an interdisciplinary specialty, involving all organ systems. His professional interests include kidney diseases, acute and chronic renal failure, dialysis, kidney transplant follow-up, and hypertension.

“Even in residency, my favorite rotations were in the rural areas. I find them stimulating and motivating because we often get to be with patients from the very beginning of their medical journeys. That is such an advantage in terms of care.”
