A board-certified physician assistant, Savana Atkins knew she wanted to be a healthcare provider since age three, when she asked for a doctor’s kit for Christmas. Her heart for taking care of people, combined with her love of science, led her to pursue her Master of Physician Assistant Medicine degree from the University of Lynchburg.
Savana initially practiced inpatient and outpatient internal medicine and intensive care. She then moved to Boice-Willis Family Medicine in 2019 where she served all ages. She felt drawn to focus on pediatrics because to her, caring for children does not feel like a job. With two small children of her own, she finds helping other parents navigate children’s illnesses and developmental milestones especially rewarding. She joined the pediatrics team in January 2025.
Within pediatrics, Savana’s areas of special interest include primary and preventative care, asthma and mental health issues, such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, and picky eating.
Originally from Nashville, NC, Savana says as a local, she understands the area and feels a kinship with the people who live here. She and her husband, who is also from the area, enjoy family time with their kids and dog, being involved in their church, and traveling, especially to the beach.
“I try to treat my patients as I do my own children. Additionally, it’s important to be very thorough, and to talk to parents calmly and explain things clearly.”
